ABOUT OUR CAMPAIGN

Meet the Candidate

Taigan Plummer - Campaign Headshot.jpg

MY BACKGROUND

I am a 25-year-old disabled mother. I grew up in Johnson County and have lived in Warrensburg as well as Holden (Pittsville). I graduated from Warrensburg High School, and married my high school sweetheart. We then had two boys, who are the reason I wake up each day to fight for a better Missouri.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE

Disabled at 21 years old, I learned that there are many unnecessary barriers in the community for our community members that impair their ability to interact with the community. I also learned that many people become disabled by no fault of their own.

As a disabled candidate and a mother, I have overcome numerous challenges to become a successful local business owner. I also became a strong advocate for domestic violence victims through my experience as a board member for Survival Adult Abuse Center (also known as Survival House). I have dedicated my life to creating opportunities for the vulnerable, fighting for equality in education, and supporting domestic violence survivors.

MY PRIORITIES

Education. Healthcare. Economy.

Education is the foundation of our community. Public education ensures we have a well education population that can serve its community. We must protect our public schools, pay teachers what they are worth, and ensure fair pay for all school staff, including paraprofessionals that are currently exempt from minimum wage requirements. When we shortchange our schools, we shortchange our students.

Rural Healthcare in Johnson County is facing an unprecedented struggle due to funding cuts at the national level. Surrounding hospitals have been listed at risk for closure. When neighboring hospitals close, the remaining ones pay the price with long waiting times in the emergency room, longer drives to access services, and ultimately, with their life when they can't reach services in time.

Economic Opportunity benefits our working class. We need to implement reform for property taxes to make sure that taxes are assessed based on income, not families. We must also implement protections for our workers and reinstate earned paid sick leave which voters already voted for. When we support the workers of our economy, we promote spending in the economy, benefiting local businesses and workers alike.
